We do get about. Before this two week Summer School at Rowden started we were up in Cheltenham. Chris Schwarz who was going to direct the course met us and joined us for a look around “The Wilson” This was the Cheltenham City Art Gallery and Library but has had a revamp. The collection remains the same fortunately though they have re hung the wonderful Arts and Crafts gallery which is what I wanted to show everyone.
Earnest Gimson is the the man here. Look at this magnificent table in English Walnut with Macassar Ebony underframe . The wide chamfers that cut clean off the drawknife are an example of English craftsman ship at its most vital .
On the Sunday in the middle of the two week course I took Chris to see Cotehele on of the very best Tudor houses in the country. With pretty intact architecture and a great collection of furniture . Just look at this lovely table and chair.
