A Makers Year 97 – Day two of week two

Day Two of Week Two.

This is where we split the class 17 into two groups. Chris Schwarz who lead the first week is now one of our students as we go into different methods of complex veneering. Daren is taking the dry and controllable tape it up and pop it in the vacuum bag approach and I an doing the hot wet and sticky approach. He flys off to a great start and today is putting complex veneered panels in the vacuum bag. My group spent yesterday doing lippings with hide glue and NO CLAMPS. just a sweet rubbed joint that need leaving overnight. A part of their day they get to go back and finish off bits on the chest. Day two we flush off and begin proper veneering.

I love this method and I love seeing light bulbs going on in the eyes of my lovely students. This is so different to dry and tape. You can move the veneer around, bring it back, push down that area that you didn’t get down the first time it is so controllable.
