Weather (With February comes the sun!)

With February comes the sun!

I have to say weather-wise, it has been a pretty miserable January here in Blighty. The UK has been basically windy, rainy, stormy, and grey for almost the entire month. We even had a few flakes of snow this week, which is a rare thing round these parts.

Now February has arrived, and “Presto Change-O” the first proper sightings of blue skies and sunshine! But we haven’t said goodbye to the cold just yet. The winds have switched round and cold (by which I mean freezing) air has been blowing down across Devon and Cornwall and the whole of the rest of the country.

It is hard to make great furniture in the dark (no surprises there!), and the artificial light in the workshop never really gives you the clarity and colour that comes from looking at something with the help of great big helpings of natural light.

For us, the biggest challenge when we’re stuck with artificial light comes when doing the finishing. You just can’t see the tiny scratches and swirls unless you get up close and personal to your piece with a torch or high powered lamp.

The arrival of great natural light and the promise of more hours of it each day will lift the mood and energy of any workshop. And with it comes the promise of warmer days, nature’s awakening, and the distinct pleasure of being able to put away those thermals for another year!

Until next time,

Lakshmi
