It is with great sadness that I heard of the passing away of James Krenov. I first encountered his work in books including “The Impractical Cabinetmaker” at the bookshop in the Design Centre in London. This would have been about 1979. He impressed me with the profound expression of creative workmanship. Many have written at interminable length about “how” we do this stuff. But nobody, before or since, has spoken so clearly about “why” we should even bother to take so much care with our furniture making. James, I shall miss your presence in our world. Obituary
