Seeing Tom was another of the real reasons for coming. I first met Tom Hucker when researching for my book Furniture with Soul. He is one of this world great furniture makers. A man of genuine skill and aesthetic knowledge. John Makepeace called his work visual poetry. And I agree. he is supported as all creatives must be supported by a wonderful partner Jeannie Chung came with him to see us in Philly.
We had a great evening with Michael Hurwitz ( see later) that ended drinking Manhattans in a place called Fishtown. A evening of good mates art and alcohol .
Before i got too sloshed I was able to ask Tom about what it is that drives him. “Why do you do it man, why do you go for that extra ten, no, five per cent that we both know it kills you. And nobody really cares anyway” His answer was typical of Tom:
“Because is who I am. If I didn’t do it, I wouldn’t know who I am”
Bless you Tom
