Good enough?

Making it…

Here at Rowden, we have a pair of facing walls in our rec space covered, and I mean covered, with images of student work. If you go to our website, you’ll find a gallery of student work too. Check it out here. Pretty much without exception, all of these pieces were designed and made by students on the one year Designer Maker course. Pretty much without exception, these pieces are extraordinarily well made, and great designs to boot.

The quality of the work that you see is quite overwhelming. It is sometimes hard to believe that these student pieces were made by mortals. By ordinary folk who hadn’t already mastered art, form, design, CAD and of course elemental woodworking beforehand.

No experience necessary

Sometimes a student arrives with some skill. Maybe they already know how to use CAD. Perhaps they are a hobbyist joiner or did a bit of art at school. But more often than not they don’t. I can tell you for a fact that none of them come with a complete package of skills. I can also tell you that this work represents what every single student who arrives at Rowden should expect to be able to do by the time they leave, regardless of background or skillset.

And that is pretty amazing!

So Rowden is genuinely open to all-comers, and Rowden is set up to take everyone and mould them into awesome designer makers.

All we ask is that you come with the desire to succeed, the patience to learn, and the energy to crack on!

Until next time,

Lakshmi
