Designing Drawer Handles

Designing door and drawer handles is one of the most difficult aspects of cabinet design. They are soooooo.. important as they are the bits we touch and feel. Yet we so frequently leave them until last, probably because they are so difficult. The result is that we add them on later and that is usually what they end up looking like , added on after thoughts.
It was lovely to see these handles developing in our studios. They are being fitted to a small “Apprentice piece” cabinet being made by a current student Rob Hughes. This is Robs first cabinet and it’s job is both to teach him many aspects of cabinet making and to go with him when he applies for a job so it’s a tool to sell Rob’s growing skills to a prospective employer. The context is lovely English Walnut cabinet with Sycamore drawers and these sweet Ebony handles.
