“The older I get the more I feel able to take risks with the forms of furniture that I make. I want my furniture to be; not just beautifully made which it is, but expressive of some aspect of the human condition. I want the pieces to say something worth listening to. For me as an artist and furniture designer, chairs present an opportunity of gaining intimacy with ones client. Its about as close as one can get. Building a structure that is to surround and support her, to make an image that is partly at least the human being in negative the space vacated as she gets up and leaves. I make chairs that are in part reflections of their owners, chairs that dance, that have energy, grace, humour and hopefully a sense of repose.”
