People have an illusion that commissioning furniture is something only for the very wealthy. This is not true. This commission was from a client of modest means who decided to refurnish her home with modern, bespoke, handmade furniture. It was a process over several years, choosing quality over convenience.
Linenfold is an example of the collaboration between client, designer and maker. The cabinet, made in pearwood has an undulating rhythm of fabric captured elegantly in its doors. Like curtains, the changing shape of the wood was intended to catch the light, creating a rhythm.
Much later a second version of this cabinet was made, for which David Savage and Daren Millman won Bespoke Guild Marks.
