summer sunburst – woodworking tips

We’re edging closer and closer to the summer so here’s a little woodworking tip from Daren Millman on sunburst veneer selection…

They sometimes tell in the books about using mirrors to see what a veneer match would look like. You know the kind of thing; book matched veneer; quarter matched veneer. What is less well known is the technique for selecting veneers for sunburst matches. A Sunburst match is where all the veneers come to a point in the centre of the piece. how you select those veneers and how they’re going to look in the Sunburst is of critical importance. We use two mirrors hinged together placed over the veneer to tell us the way it will look and suggest alternative configurations.
