This was a project that brought along many emotions and feelings. A huge job from Dubai for their living room. One that I will remember for a long time.
After having my designs approved by the client I was straight on the phone to order in some Burr Walnut veneer which Daren, our main craftsman here at Rowden, just so happens to be a master of. Both excited and anxious about the beginning of a new project. This wasn’t any ordinary job though. The size, cost of materials and sheer amount of time to be invested in this was enough to put any master craftsmen off. But we ventured on knowing that it would be a good project to look back upon and be proud of the work involved.
From marquetry to french polishing. There were subtleties within this piece that had to be done to make it perfect.
From marquetry to french polishing. There were subtleties within this piece that had to be done to make it perfect. No shortcuts taken. This was a job where it’s kept and worked upon within the main workshop. It’s the first thing you see when you walk in, the last thing you see on the way out and there was always someone hard at work nearby.
In a way this feels like a project that incorporated a lot of the ethos that we try to get across here at Rowden. Lots of long hours were put into the job, from both staff and students. Everyone chiming in to help out where their specialties lay all for the joy of making some beautifully handcrafted furniture.
